Traveling with your pet can be an enjoyable experience. You will see incredible sights and new people. But what would you do if your dog didn’t show the same enthusiasm when driving a car?
You may bark excessively at other vehicles or pedestrians, feel extremely anxious while driving, and, in the worst-case scenario, do business in the back seat of your car.
Don’t worry, here are some steps you can take to control your pet in the vehicle.
1-Prepare yourself
Before you get your dog into the car, there are a few things you need to remember to pack that he will need when traveling. Some of these include a bowl for food and snacks, your pet’s favorite toy, a harness, a harness or shackle for your pet, and water. You need to make sure that you and your pet move around the car smoothly.
2-Take it slow
If your dog is restless while driving, there is nothing wrong with leaving him in your vehicle as often as possible. That way, you will slowly take him to another room beside the house.
You can walk in short circles around the block where you live or take a short trip to get used to the feeling of driving a car. However, if there are signs of damage, try running in the car with the engine off.
You can wait for the pet to relax and be calm while in the car. This way, you can also correct the behavior without having to drive. It’s a bad idea to train your dog and drive at the same time.
It’s also a good idea to have other family members or friends around to keep your pet cool.
For some owners, a walk-in their pet’s nap! Wouldn’t it be great if it happened every time you went out driving? If not, you can still wait for the pet to relax while carefully starting the engine. You will initially take short trips while your dog is with you until you feel that your dog is relaxed enough to continue the long car journey.
