What Kind of Dog is Lassie? How the Lassie Breed Shaped the Collie
Lassie was the so-called regular Collie of the rough variety. And she was a Collie, who had a coat complete of luscious, thick hair. However, there are other types of Collies out there. If you encounter Smooth Collies, this means they have a short coat, but they are also from this breed. It’s the same race. Variations specific!
The raw-coated Collies became the most famous variations of the breed, thanks to Lassie movies, novels and tv shows. People have the iconic coat of Lassie after horses. With time, they have been more popular to the point that you usually think of a Collie and not of the smooth-coated colly.
Border Collies vs Collie Breed
But not all of the Collies are “normal” as Lassie was. You might have heard of the Border Collie breed, and you thought they were Lassie ‘s cousin. In fact, Border Collies is a totally different breed with different characteristics.
An adult dog is a medium-sized dog that looks beautiful and lavish. You have a relatively broad torso, sloping back, and bodybuilding. It’s all harmonious about this breed. No part of their body is disproportionate, which gives them a harmonious look.
The rough variety has long and abundant hair all over its body, but its head and legs. The outer coat is straight and feels rough to the touch, while the undercoat is soft and dense. You can barely see the skin of Collie because of how thick their fur is.
They’ve got a mane and a frill around their head, giving them a distinct look. Both rough and smooth Collies have different colors for their coat. It may be tricolor (a combination of black, white and tan markings), blue merle (black and silver blue), or sand and white.

The Collie is just on everything you can think of in a family dog. She is compassionate, caring, and very devoted to her family. He is a human dog who likes to be showered with affection and care. We establish close relations with their families from the beginning and are very respectful of them. If someone tries to threaten them, the Collie’s going to step into a heartbeat.
They ‘re extremely intelligent, too. This is a guy who can figure out the answer to a number of problems on the spot. Collies are also very playful and like to be around their owners, especially their children. The best Collie is the one that works around small children and saves them from all threats around them.
It’s also necessary to train and socialize puppies, and Collie is no exception to that. It will mean that they grow up to be caring for older pets, not violent and timid pets.
