The Rugged Collie, the Scotch Collie, the Sleek Collie
When we talk about the Collies, we should specify that we’re talking about the Regular Collies. These dogs are also known as Scotch Collies because of where they were first bred. In other words, saying that a Lassie dog is a Regular Collie or a Scotch Collie is exactly the same thing.
Now we’ve got two differences. Collie may have a thin coat or a thick, full coat. If they’ve got short hair, they ‘re a Smooth Collie. If they’ve got a long, lustrous coat, then they’re the Rough Collie puppy.
Is this a Healthy Dog Breed?
Collies are healthy overall. However, like all other dog breeds, they are at higher risk of developing certain conditions than other dogs. Although not all of the Collies get them, every owner should be prepared for the worst.
Hip dysplasia is a common disease of this breed. This occurs when the bone of the leg does not fit correctly into the hip socket, creating trouble with movement. Hip dysplasia is particularly uncomfortable, and pups who have it prefer to keep silent so as not to rub their bones together.
Collie ‘s eye anomaly is another common condition. It’s a hereditary disease that can lead to complete blindness. Eye anomaly can affect almost any component of the eye, from the choroid to coloboma.
Finally, Collies may also have to fight Von Willebrand ‘s disease. It’s a condition that affects how well the blood coagulates when the wound has been cut or bleeding. Dogs who are injured have difficulty preventing their hemorrhage, which can lead to death if they are not treated.
In addition, Collies, like all dogs, are also susceptible to tick-borne diseases. You need to be careful and watch out to see if your dog is walking around with a tick on its skin.
